Why Do I Always Feel Less Than Others? A High School Girl's Story from Pungnap

💡 A message of hope for teenage girls struggling with comparison, low self-esteem, and negative thoughts.

"Why does it feel like I'm never enough?"

A high school girl from Pungnap wakes up with a heavy heart. She scrolls through Instagram, sees others succeed, and thinks: “Why is she so good at everything?” “Why am I always behind?” “Why does my mom always compare me to others?” “Is it just me? Is it because of where I live?”

Pungnap vs. Jamsil — A Comparison That Hurts

Even though Pungnap and Jamsil are both in the same city district, they feel worlds apart. Jamsil has tall apartments, top academies, perfect resumes. Pungnap has older buildings, fewer resources, and silent pressure to “catch up.” It’s more than a location issue. It becomes a burden that feels like a “born disadvantage.”

But the voices in my head won’t stop...

“She’s a top student. You’re not.” “You weren’t born smart enough.” “You’ll never get into a good university.” “Accept it. You’re average. That’s your level.” No one says these things out loud, but they play in my mind like a loop I can’t control.

I tried everything… but nothing worked

I watched “how to boost self-esteem” videos Wrote daily affirmations: “I’m valuable.” Went to counseling But no matter what I did, that voice came back. Stronger. Meaner. More real.

Then someone said, “That voice isn’t you.”

“That voice? You didn’t create it.” “It’s not your true self—it’s a lie.” “You’re not weak. You’ve just been deceived.” And for the first time… I realized I never wanted those thoughts to begin with.

It was a system—one I never chose

That person explained it this way: “Those thoughts aren’t just random. They’re part of a broken system that you unknowingly grew up in.” And then they added: “But the good news is… that system can be broken. God already gave the way.”

✝ The name is “Christ” — and it changes everything

The Bible says: “In the beginning, humans didn’t compare. There was no inferiority, no shame. But then a lie entered: ‘You can live without God.’ That lie broke the human mind. And that brokenness continues to pass down.” So God gave a name to break the system. That name is Christ. And the one who fulfilled that role perfectly… is Jesus.

Jesus is the Christ. That name still has power — greater than any voice inside you.

So I began to speak truth out loud

“Jesus is the Christ. This thought isn’t mine. It’s a lie. In Jesus’ name, I break this voice!” It might sound weird. But that’s where freedom began for me.

🙏 A Short Prayer (Even if you don’t believe yet)

“God, I’ve been hearing voices of comparison, shame, and fear. I thought they were mine. But today, I learned they might not be. If there’s a name that breaks those lies, I want to know that name. Jesus, set my thoughts free. Amen.”

💌 Final Line of Hope

“You’ve been trapped in thoughts that were never truly yours. But now, you can break free. That freedom starts with one name: Jesus is the Christ.”
